Hybrid Online Adult Faith Formation Renaissance Module 

Who Should Attend

This module is an excellent introduction to adult faith development philosophy, programming, and resources for ministers, religious educators and adult program leaders.

This renaissance module will be a combination of five webinar sessions and one in person workshop.  Participaton in all sessions is required to receive credit towards Renaissance Recognition or for the RE Credentialing Program.  Each session will require the submission of a short reflection and there will be readings and an occasional video that must be viewed prior to a particular session.  A final project is required and will be completed during the in person workshop.  The reader is Reframing Hope: Vital Ministry in a New Generation by Carol Howard-Merritt, published by the Alban Institute, 2010.

Summary of the Module Goals:

  • Model good practices in adult faith development programming
  • Present information about the characteristics of adult learners
  • Demonstrate and provide practice in the application of learning theory to congregational life and adult faith development programming
  • Connect adult programming and faith development to building multiracial, multicultural, multigenerational beloved congregational community
  • Consider ways in which adult programming balances opportunities both for mixing with those of other perspectives and life experiences and for huddling with those who share similar life experiences and perspectives
  • Consider the contemporary cultural context and its impact on programming and congregational life and explore strategies for responding effectively
  • Provide and demonstrate practical tools for planning and supporting adult programming in Unitarian Universalist faith communities
  • Present the philosophy and approach of Tapestry of Faith, provide details about adult programming, and provide an opportunity for sharing experiences with Tapestry of Faith

A note about webinar times: Each webinar is approximately 90 minutes in length.  The tentative start time is 10am.  If we have enough registrants, we will split the group into an AM session and a PM session with an afternoon or evening time to be determined.

Attendance is expected for all sessions, although we recognize that there may be unavoidable conflicts.  An occaional session may be rescheduled as the will of the group dictates.  All sessions will be recorded for later viewing.  The Reader is Reframing Hope: Vital Ministry in a New Generation by Carol Howard-Merritt, published by the Alban Institute, 2010.

Location: Cedar Lane Unitarian Universlist Church - 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, MD  20814

Registration Fee: $100 per person (This fee includes materials, light morning refreshments and lunch for the in person workshop.  Transportation to Bethesda and lodging NOT included in the registration fee.  Some limited home hospitality may be available.  General information about lodging will be provided to participants after the start of the class.
